From Chaos to Order

1) Work

Chapter 3 of 9

The first enabler takes chronological precedence because of its presence in all the other enablers. It takes work to fulfill all the other enablers and maintain order in your life.

As strange as it might sound, true work is good for us. A person with work that he or she loves to do has many good days, and has good levels of fulfillment. When work starts to harm us then it’s either time to rest or time to find the work that we truly love to do, and not that which we do to just make ends meet. We need work as much as we need rest; the two complement each other, one drawing power and enjoyability from the other. Rest is sweet after work, and work enjoyable after a good rest.

But work is more than just a source of mental equilibrium in life; it is also an enabler of orderly living. Looking at it realistically, life is like a job that we are constantly on. We eat and that is work to stay fit and healthy. We bath and use skincare and haircare products, etc, and that is work to look good. We even work to stay alive: we constantly breathe in and out, and pump blood around our bodies (though somewhat subconsciously and seemingly effortlessly); and that is work—consistent and persistent work.

Since work is present in the fundamentals of life itself, why would it be unnecessary in living an orderly life? Work is needed to make any progress in life. So to maintain order in your life, you need to be ready and willing to work. Your self-esteem, knowledge, skills, happiness and prosperity require work from you to build them up. Understand that work is an ever-present aspect of life that you need to embrace and use to your advantage. If you fall in love with work, changing your life’s circumstances will be easier for you and your mind will be open to identifying more ways in which you can work to improve your life.
