If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland: the website serves no advertising, analytics, cookies or identifiers, and the Android app does not initialize Google's Mobile Ads SDK or request an ad. Not "only after you agree" — none, ever, and so there is nothing to agree to. You get the complete reading experience. The only off-device data involved is the ordinary request log described below.

If you are reading from anywhere else: the website is funded by a small number of ads and uses Google Analytics 4. The Android app may show a small Google AdMob advertisement after reading content. The related Google processing is described below.

We work out which applies from the network location of your request. The Android app asks spreuke.app for a two-letter country code and keeps the result only in memory for the current session. Neither the website nor the app stores it as a location profile.

Spreuke (spreuke.app) is operated by FreeBeings.io LLC, 145 Pine Haven Shores Rd, Ste 1000A, Shelburne, Vermont 05482-7812, United States. FreeBeings.io LLC is the data controller.

We have not appointed an EU or UK representative under Art. 27 GDPR, because we do not track, profile, or advertise to readers in those regions — the reason that obligation exists does not arise here.

1. Technical requests and logs (everyone). When the website serves a page, or the Android app downloads public content or checks its country, our hosting provider receives the IP address, device or browser request information, and requested path. It keeps short-lived logs. We use these requests only to deliver Spreuke, make the regional decision and keep the service secure. Legal basis where GDPR applies: legitimate interest in running a secure reading service (Art. 6(1)(f)).

2. Advertising cookies (readers outside the EEA, UK and Switzerland only). We show a small number of ads through Google AdSense to keep Spreuke free, on the reading pages only. Google sets cookies and similar identifiers to select and measure ads. Google acts as an independent controller for this processing — see Google's privacy policy and how Google uses information from partner sites.

3. Analytics cookies (readers outside the EEA, UK and Switzerland only). We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which Sparks, chapters, and posts people read on the website. The Android app does not include Google Analytics or another app analytics SDK.

4. Android advertising data (app readers outside the EEA, UK and Switzerland only). The app may initialize the Google Mobile Ads SDK and show a small AdMob ad after reading content. Google says this SDK automatically collects and shares an IP address, app interactions, diagnostic information, and device or account identifiers—including the Android advertising ID—for advertising, analytics, and fraud prevention. This data is encrypted in transit. Google handles it under Google's privacy policy.

5. Reading data stored on your Android device. The app stores Sparks you have seen or saved, reading history and book positions, cached public content, and notification choices locally on your device. Spreuke does not receive or sync this information. Daily-Spark and new-writing notifications are optional, off by default, and generated locally; the app uses no push token or Firebase Cloud Messaging.

That's the whole list. No accounts, no newsletters, no comments, no messages and no cloud profile—and for readers in the EEA, UK and Switzerland, no Google advertising or analytics processing through Spreuke.

Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc.) — hosts and serves the website and the Android app's public content and country endpoints (Cloudflare Pages/CDN); processes IP addresses and request logs to deliver them. This applies to every reader.

Google (Google LLC / Google Ireland Ltd.) — AdSense and Google Analytics 4 on the website, and AdMob in the Android app, as described above. No data about readers in the EEA, UK or Switzerland reaches Google through Spreuke's advertising or analytics products, because the website scripts are never served and the app's Mobile Ads SDK is never initialized for them.

Both providers process data in the United States. For readers whose data does reach Google, transfers rely on the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and/or Standard Contractual Clauses.

Hosting logs: short rotation periods set by the provider. Website analytics (outside the EEA/UK/Switzerland): GA4 event retention is set to 14 months. Website advertising cookies and Android AdMob data: retention periods are set by Google. Local app reading data remains on the device until you reset it, clear the app's storage, or uninstall the app.

If you're in the EEA, UK, or another jurisdiction with data-protection rights, you can ask us for access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of personal data we hold, and object to or restrict processing. Because we don't keep accounts or profiles — and because we serve no EEA/UK/Swiss reader any advertising or analytics at all — the honest answer will almost always be that we hold nothing about you beyond the short-lived server log described above. Write to [email protected] and you will get a proper answer within a month. Ask anyway; we'll answer properly either way.

You can also complain to your local data-protection authority.

For ad and analytics data held by Google — which, again, does not include readers in the EEA, UK or Switzerland — Google provides its own controls: adssettings.google.com and the GA opt-out.

On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in the device's privacy settings. You can erase Spreuke's local reading data by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling it.

We do not sell personal information, and Spreuke does not currently meet the thresholds that would bring it under the California Consumer Privacy Act or similar state laws. If that ever changes, this page will say so and describe your rights under those laws.

Spreuke is a general-audience reading website and app and is not directed at children. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children; the services described above are the only collection there is.

If this policy changes, the new version appears here with a new effective date. We don't announce changes any other way — this quiet page is the record.
