From Chaos to Order

As patient as death

Chapter 8 of 9

Death is mankind’s oldest stalker; truly, we are never alone. There is something watching our every move, and counting every breath we take. Though we go about our lives caring little for the impending, it waits patiently for that final day, hour and minute; for that moment when the sand runs out from the top of the hour glass and we have to face it at last.

It is the wait of a lifetime, literally, as it watches us act oblivious to the truth. Close calls may come and it might gasp expecting the end, but we cheat death and get second chances. Through it all, it maintains the patience of someone assured of victory, and of the last laugh.

As strange as it might sound, I am inspired by death’s perfect patience; the kind that fulfills the required wait and wins in the end. It is this kind of patience that I’ve found to be highly effective in life, when applied in the right direction. Though patience is not always beneficial in absolutely everything, because impatience does pay at times, it ensures success to be as patient as death when patience is needed.

It is this understanding of the importance of selective patience that helps you to maintain the order in your life and keep chaos away. Losing your patience at the wrong time or wasting your patience on futile matters can both set off a chain of events that can seriously destabilize your life. Learning to listen to reality trains you to make better decisions on when to be patient and for how long. There is one thing that you should never lose your patience on though. Exercise the patience of death unwaveringly on this one thing: to maintain your life’s order.
