My happiness
Chapter 66 of 76
It’s intriguing how a place I left feeling unhappy can bring me so much happiness upon my return. I was actually happy to be back there, I remember.
I left this place at a time when a lot of things were going wrong in my life. The place reminded me of my problems everyday, especially when I thought about it after my departure. Returning there made me realize something. The true loss of my happiness was due to a loss of security and the freedom to express myself as I wanted; loss of progress in life. It wasn’t because of the place.
Happiness is not primarily about the place you are at. It is more about what you think of that place and how you relate to it. The place that stole my happiness, and reminded me of bad things, became a pleasant reminder of my progress. I remembered all that went wrong and liked the progress I had made with moving on with my life.
Happiness is not a stage in life that you get to, but it is a state of mind you maintain. So you can be happy, whatever stage of life you’re at; even if you hate it and are working to change your life. The hope of a better day motivates and inspires you, but what makes you happy is your own mentality.
