This Is My Life

My consultant

Chapter 10 of 17

The best consultant you can ever have

“We need to talk,” he says.

“What? Now?”

“Yes, now.”

“I’m in the middle of something.”

“That’s exactly why we need to talk.”

I excuse myself without hesitation,
And abandon the confrontation.
It’s time for some consultation.

I go to my bedroom,
And enter the bathroom.
He is there, waiting for me.

We stare at each other for a while.
He’s always there, but we haven’t spoken in a while.

I tilt my head up higher,
He does the same.
A sight to admire,
We look very much the same.

He looks angry;
I guess we feel the same way too.
So I simmer down,
And he calms down too.

He asks, “You look better that way, right?”

He’s right, I do.

I ask, “Why did you interrupt my meeting?”

“You looked like a fool.”

“And I guess you are the master of cool,” I say.

“Confrontation wastes time,” he says.

“And you are wasting mine. What’s your point?”

“Don’t let emotions overpower your intelligence.”

I nod.

“That’s all I’m saying,” he concludes.

The truth hurts.

I was losing it.
I know my right to freedom,
And they were abusing it.

They insulted me.
The attack reached the inner depths of my heart.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion.
I know that.
And to retaliate would be defeat, on my part.

So I don’t go back to the person I was arguing with,
Because the man in the mirror took me out of the situation,
And changed the way I was viewing it.
