This Is My Life

Attracted to the mysterious

Chapter 8 of 17

Some people are just fake friends who are just attracted to the mysterious

The new kid on the block always gets the attention.
What’s his name, what does he do?
He’s the guy that busybodies love to mention.
Before you know it, the whole place is talking about you.

I feel their curiosity,
They watch my every action.

Among the first to inquire,
Are the gold diggers.
That aim to get what they desire,
Before moving on to something bigger.

Those that worship status,
Come to measure up against you.
Weighing your pros and digging dirt to know the cons.
These usually disappear in a short while,
Masquerading your shortcomings to the world,
After making conclusions on how they are better than you.

Or they become hostile,
If they see you as a threat to their “style.”

Fake friends are just attracted to the mysterious,
But they disappear when they think they’ve “figured” you out.
When they think they know what you are all about.

I’ve tried to understand it, and use my head,
But I discovered this instead: A true friend loves me, good and bad.
My outstanding attributes,
And the skeletons in my closet.

These are rare and come few,
So appreciate those given to you.
