born with a sour spoonful in my mouth
i know life is not always sweet
it can be a handful
still
i am grateful

i woke up ages ago
long before there was any coffee for me to smell
back when my parents protected me and all was well

i woke up long before morning
long before it dawned on me
that life is a load you carry
and well before
the calm before the storm

i haven’t closed my eyes since…

an insomniac
i’ve seen it all
dark times the more
when my life was night
my eyes were wide open

i’ve seen it all

on that
my mind is set

like earth
life spins and
light shines on the other side
of my world
so i reflect
again and again
on good thoughts
and let the light in my heart
