“Whatever you do, people will form opinions, and perhaps express them: some approving and some disapproving. Even dead people have critics.”

No action reaches every observer in the same way. Some people approve, others disapprove, and many form opinions from values and experiences that the person being judged does not share.

There is no final achievement that ends this. Even a completed life remains open to criticism from people who came later. Waiting for universal approval would mean waiting beyond death.

The constant presence of critics can become freeing. Their existence does not prove that the work is wrong, just as praise does not prove it is right. Opinions can be studied and used, but they cannot all be satisfied. A life still needs a direction that survives disagreement.
