It is possible to complete the work and still miss the result that mattered. The effort succeeds on its own terms, but it has been aimed at the wrong end. That is what makes the failure successful: something was achieved, just not what the life needed. Foresight connects today’s work to tomorrow’s direction. It asks whether a choice will still look useful after its wider effects appear. Without that view, hard work can produce a result that must later be undone.

The painful part is not only reaching the wrong place. It is the time spent returning to the point where the right journey can begin. Direction gives effort its value before effort gives direction its speed.
