Comfort protects a person from hardship, but it can also hide what hardship teaches. Someone who has always been warm may understand cold as an idea without knowing what it asks of a body or a life. That missing knowledge is a kind of disadvantage inside privilege. It can make another person’s struggle look simple, and it leaves comfort feeling more secure than it really is. Reality outside the house remains unseen.

Problems can break that distance. They reveal which parts of life cannot be bought back, which strengths survive loss, and how much ordinary safety was doing. The lesson does not make suffering desirable. It shows why comfort alone cannot teach the whole world.
