Decisions and options
Chapter 24 of 76
Sometimes we blame people for making bad decisions when it is more appropriate to blame life for giving them bad options to choose from. Not everyone can fight the options that life gives sometimes, or make more options through action. It depends on willpower, intelligence, courage and perseverance, among many other qualities.
Perhaps that person who chose to betray you and hurt your feelings chose to do so because he or she never had an intimate relationship with anyone; never saw the benefits of a mutually beneficial relationship. If he or she valued trust, betrayal would be senseless.
Most of the time, people break the trust of loved ones because of being unaware or ignorant of its importance. Only on few occasions have I seen people break trust mistakenly, because awareness of the importance of trust alone is strong enough to motivate loyalty, and this unintentional betrayal is more forgivable than the former.
I cannot imagine a situation in which people make bad decisions, knowing that they are bad and they come with negative consequences. They always believe that they are making the right decision, no matter how fallacious their belief is. This taught me that bad decisions sometimes come as a result of lack of options; and if you are not courageous enough to challenge available options and create new ones through action, then you’ll accede and choose from the options you see, even if they are bad. It will be like choosing the lesser of two mistakes. Without a better option, what’s available right now seems best.
