Opportunities to learn
Chapter 5 of 76
Every day that we get to live has opportunities to learn and acquire skill, and all we experience can teach us something. Sometimes these opportunities come as problems. Those difficult circumstances that force us to either come up with solutions or lose something dear. Whether you solve them or fail, you still learn.
Social isolation at school led me to find solace in seeking knowledge and gaining skill (which was the main reason of going to school anyway). In about a year, somewhat of a loner at school became a “computer wiz kid” as they put it. Being alone taught me the power of will and the value of time.
There are also problems that I failed to solve, but learned from nonetheless. It is difficult to express the pain I felt when I couldn’t pursue the career I wanted to, not because of failures on my part, but because of life’s complications; knowing that given even half a chance to do it, I would do it with my eyes closed. The pinnacle of all my hard work was shattered right before my eyes, and I couldn’t do anything to save it.
Though I had managed to find a path to follow, it was swept away from right under my feet. I still learned from it all though. I am a curious being, and that part of me will never die.
This brings me to the other opportunities to learn that come as a result of our own curiosity. A curious venture can turn out to be a lesson of a lifetime. The path I am following now is a result of a culmination of curious ventures, that morphed into one vision. When I lost my dreams, the underlying passions that propelled me to seek out the first path were revealed and more clearly defined in my mind, and all of them are fulfilled within my current path. This is better than anything I had imagined before. I now feel blessed to have chosen to continue pursuing my happiness.
With all the skills and knowledge I have acquired, and how they are proving extremely useful in my life today, I’m glad that I was the kid that befriended books and gadgets.
Life is becoming increasingly valuable as time passes. The many layers that cover human life are suddenly more perceivable to me. Work is not something that I do because I have to, but because I want to. Moments of decisions are now chances to change my future; that is when destiny and I speak to each other.
The difference between “know” and “know not” is also important to me now. There are many things that you can avoid by just knowing something. Knowledge of self is the most notable knowledge I pursue. By knowing myself, I avoided dead dreams and a meaningless life.
