Being there for someone
Chapter 60 of 76
It’s only after being alone at a time when you need someone the most that you realize just how heartless it is to abandon someone when he or she needs you. We might seek solace in other things, but the truth remains. Material things may comfort us, but the right person’s presence brings something impossible to get from elsewhere.
I was there for someone at a time when everyone else he expected and needed to be there for him abandoned him. I empathized with him all the more because I knew the pain of heartbreak, betrayal and loneliness very well. I just couldn’t leave him alone.
I didn’t have much to give, materially; all I had was myself and that was worth so much more than I thought. I spent time with him and spoke words of encouragement and comfort, something I knew would heal his heart; something I needed but lacked too at one time.
The experience taught me new dimensions of love and optimism. Just being there for someone when he or she needs you makes a lot of difference. It doesn’t just add a smile to their face, but life to their heart, and days to their lifetime.
