This Is My Life

Critics and mimics

Chapter 16 of 17

First they were critics, now they are mimics

I spread my wings to fly,
And they laugh at me.
They mock me and I don’t know why,
They have their own wings, you see.

The difference is that I choose
To use mine and go for the ride,
While they neglect theirs and tuck them inside.

I try to take off,
But crash soon after.
They laugh it off,
But I try again, despite their laughter.

I try harder,
I’m more focused and determined.
More mocking and a couple of tries later: I made it!

I’m finally flying.
After so much effort and all of this trying.

I’ve conquered all fear.
Made all my worries disappear…
Wow, the world looks small from up here.

Wait.
What is this I see?
The same people are now copying me.

It’s funny how they’ve changed, so suddenly.
They didn’t think twice to abandon me.
Now they act as if they’ve always been a part of me.

“Come down and teach me,” one screams.
While some try to fly by themselves, or so it seems.

Back then, they assumed the role of critics,
But now, they are just mimics.

I have nowhere to go but up,
And I’m not going down there.
I love my freedom; soaring in the air.
