Innocent ties this to having a role in life: your abilities meeting the chance to use them. When you haven’t found that yet, it shows up as hopelessness, frustration, a life that doesn’t quite make sense. When you have, the same load becomes easier — even enjoyable — to carry.

The way in is to stay curious and open: notice what makes you happy, name the skills you have, try new things. Each ability you unlock opens a door you couldn’t see before.
