Judging advice

Personal problems are not easy to discuss, let alone with someone a bit distant from you. For fear of being a laughingstock, you may not discuss your problems with people. It’s up to you to judge for yourself whether or not you will get constructive advice from a person, or if you will be mocked.

Once you decide to confide in someone, one thing to avoid though is underestimating that person’s ability to help you solve your problems. Don’t judge advice by your opinion of its teller. Judge it by what it is worth.

You might end up pushing away the people with good intentions, and embracing the betrayers and destroyers instead. Someone who can tell you the truth not to demean, insult or mislead you, but just to let you know of it, means well. No matter how bad it might sound to you or how upsetting it might be, it is good information. Truth is truth.
