Keeping your own word
Chapter 49 of 76
We’ve all made promises to ourselves; to do better, to kick a habit or to achieve something. Most of the promises we make to, or oaths we take on, ourselves are inspired by some negative circumstance that we would want to reverse or avoid in the future. New Year’s resolutions are a good example.
Making personal resolutions such as these signifies a progressive life. As with all things in life, there is more to the story. It’s not always easy to stick to your resolutions. This led me to ask why.
A promise you make to yourself is easier to keep when it’s trigger is still around, but once things change and a reason seems non-existent, it gets harder to keep. That is when keeping your word matters. You will need to remind yourself of the reason why you made the promise and, from that, garner the strength to pull through the tempting phase.
