More fear in numbers

There is a comfort that comes from doing things in numbers. You look around you and see that a lot of other people are doing the same things, or going through the same things. This makes it feel alright in a way, and it takes away fear to some extent.

It’s natural to feel this comfort, and I do feel it at times. There are also times when I feel uncomfortable and fearful when I do things that other people are doing.

Doing things in numbers tends to discourage free thought. You just think that since everyone else is doing it, then it’s alright. You don’t analyze and judge the usefulness and effects of the actions as much as you would if you were doing them on your own.

This is what scares me: failing to think for myself because of the comfort that comes from doing things in numbers (or following the crowd).
