Lessons from loss

Chapter 71 of 76

Loss is a quick way to learn appreciation. We understand the worth of something more after losing it for a while. Being deprived of the benefits we used to get makes us adjust our appreciation of the object of loss.

Loss is an effective teacher of the value of hard work. Losing something you worked so hard to get, something that comes once-in-a-lifetime or something rare surely helps you understand gratitude and value your time. Hard work that doesn’t pay off might hurt, but it makes you stronger and teaches you paths you ought to avoid in the future.

Loss is a great reality check. You learn that what you have now is not guaranteed to still be available and be in your possession tomorrow. Loss enlightens you to the forces that affect you in life; exposing those you should be wary of, those you should use to your advantage and those whose imminence or irrevocability you ought to just embrace.
