What Is Love?

A bottle of whiskey and a harmonica

Chapter 13 of 30

A bottle of whiskey and a harmonica to drown my sorrow

Emotions needing to be expressed,
Are now violently demanding an outlet.
So much has happened, I’ve been so stressed,
Now I must let it out, I must vent.

I grab a bottle of my favorite whiskey,
The only thing that’s able to calm me,
Get me in the right state of mind, see.

I pour myself a shot and down it.
There’s no one to share it with, but I don’t worry about it.
Within a minute, I feel its effect,
Then I take my harmonica, and start to reflect.
Sounding tones to the voice of my heart,
Remembering the problem, the very day I saw it start.

I thought I had met the one, but
All that was a mirage,
Which disappeared before I had a chance to enjoy.
This pitiful ending, I did not envisage,
And now the harmonica is healing me like a child with his toy.

I play it with emotion, you can hear it speak.
A symphony taking you on a trip,
Through my painful experience, that’s too much to keep.

As it goes to higher notes, signifying its peak,
I feel relieved, reborn, I’m me again.
Free from heartbreak, that strong yet invisible chain,
That stymied me from living again.
