What Is Love?

Unintentional heartbreak

Chapter 22 of 30

I did not mean to break your heart

You are hurting, I can tell.
You avoid me,
And try to ignore me,
Hoping to enclose yourself in a shell.
So you can implode and end this suffering of hell.
I know what you are going through.
I know it so well.

Not so long ago, I was in that position too.
But my pain was brought to me deliberately.
And yours came unintentionally.

You tell me that you love me,
But she says it too.
And since you saw her making moves on me,
You want us to be through.

When it comes to being with me,
You want to be the only one.
But the thing is, you’re not the only one that wants me to herself.

I don’t like breaking hearts,
And given the choice, I would not.
But a lot of insecurities that you’ve got,
Make it hard for you to take thought,
And ask me what I want.

But because you chose to end this,
Now she thinks she’s the only one.
All happy and celebrating that she won.

But the truth is: it’s hard for me to commit,
This is a fact that I do admit.
Because I’ve learnt the hard way to place that commitment somewhere else,
A place where my well-being doesn’t depend on someone else.

Until someone shows me something mutual,
I’ll just be me; unlike the usual.
