She married an abusive husband

Makeup to hide the bruises on her face,
And painkillers in her bag just so she can get through the day.
Not once did she envision living this way.
With her life apparently enviable, but pitiful in reality.

She takes charge at work, and manages plenty of staff,
But is demeaned at home; there she is not strong enough.
She cannot do it on her own, he makes it hard for her to be tough,
Especially when he’s drunk, that’s when he gets rough.

They say a person’s true character shows itself when they drink.
That’s when they perceive no boundaries, and see no need to filter what they think.

And she’s now seeing a side of her man she never knew existed.
When she met him, he was so charming, no one could have guessed it.

She misses the old days, when she had met the love of her life.
When she fantasized about their marriage, and what it would be like to be his wife.

When his jokes and puns would make her laugh,
And forget about her past.
Forget about the heartbreaks and relationships that didn’t last.

But now it’s dawning on her,
The error she has made.
By breaking the heart of someone who truly loved her,
And choosing to be with this man instead.

All she does is cry,
Asking herself why,
She married the wrong guy.
