A great distance
Chapter 6 of 30
There is now a great distance between us
I tell you that I need you, and you just turn away.
You’re upset, I can tell, but there’s nothing more that I can say.
I do need you in my life, it’s true.
And though I may not show it all the time,
An unnerving fright engulfs me when I think of losing you.
And not letting you know this would be nothing but a crime.
I don’t know what else to do,
I don’t know how best to let you know.
I’m trying to let my words be few,
Lest I say something I don’t mean, and you end up saying no.
It’s a precarious situation to be in.
When speaking puts you at risk of losing,
And being silent is no different.
Your heart is the book, which I’m now perusing.
Carefully studying it so you don’t see me as being ignorant.
I read every word, and every sentence,
Leaving no page unturned,
In the hope that I’ll strike the right note, and make you understand.
But it’s too late,
Every word I utter is irrelevant.
Your mind is made up,
And saying more only makes you appear candescent,
With hot anger and pure hate.
Things are not the same any more, I feel it in my heart.
There is now a great distance between us, and it is tearing us apart.
