Discouragement announces the discourager’s limits, not yours, and reading it that way changes what it does to you. Innocent says being warned off something makes him more curious about it, not less — a warning is just somebody else’s version of reality, offered as if it were the only one available. He has pushed past enough of them to know his own version holds up under testing. The border of sanity, in his account, is a place worth visiting rather than a warning sign.
